On 1 September, the Rosa Challenge Tour came to an end at Rosa Golf Club. The impressive victory of the young player from Spain was watched by crowds of fans. One of them was Adrian Meronk, who, as announced, turned up for the final round.
Winning in style
Angel Ayora is starting his career in grand style. Victory in his first season on the Challenge Tour has given him a rise to 9th in the rankings and an almost 100 per cent chance of promotion to the DP World Tour next season. In addition to the statuette and a cheque for €42,300, which was personally presented to him by Arkadiusz Muś – owner of Rosa Golf Club – the Spaniard also won an invitation to a highly prestigious tournament in Switzerland, the Omega Masters on the DP World Tour.
Angel Ayora could not hide his elation at winning and commented on his victory as follows: ‘I am very proud of all the work we put in to achieve this. This is my first year as a pro, so to win in my first season is something special. I’m very happy to give myself a chance to advance to the DP World Tour. My dream is to play on the DP World Tour and that’s all I can say.’
It is worth mentioning that the Spaniard’s coach and caddie is the excellent Polish-speaking Juan Ochoa, who has coached Polish players in the past, including Mateusz Gradecki.
Hole in One and a new course record
There was no lack of emotions during the Rosa Challenge Tour and fans were able to enjoy golf at the highest level, admiring the play of both successful players and young talents. In the second round, Kristoffer Bring hit a Hole in One from 168m, 9 Iron, on the 14th hole. On the same day, Italian Gregorio De Leo set a new course record of 61 strokes.
Polish players
Unfortunately, none of the Polish representatives made the cut during the Rosa Challenge Tour. The closest to success was Mateusz Gradecki (73), who was returning to play after a recent knee operation, as well as Alejandro Pedryc (96) and Michał Bogusz (109). All, however, were delighted to be part of the Polish Challenge Tour.
Great fan support
From the very first day of the tournament, fans flocked to Rosa Golf Club in large numbers, and the final round gathered real crowds. Hundreds of people followed the leaders’ flights, creating a great atmosphere and a great spectacle. Many fans also wanted to see Adrian Meronk, who, as announced, appeared during the final round. Poland’s top golfer was the centre of attention, patiently handing out autographs and taking photos with his fans for hours. There were also visits from other famous athletes during the Rosa Challenge Tour – Jerzy Dudek and Mariusz Czerkawski, among others, came to Rosa.
Thank you very much to everyone who contributed to the event and visited the Rosa Challenge Tour. It is a great honour for us that we could contribute to the promotion of golf in Poland by organising the tournament.
